The gym groups of Imatra's exercise services have significant effects on the functional ability of the elderly
Imatra has studied the physical, psychological and social functioning of elderly people who participated in gym groups and the changes during their participation in the group. The research was carried out both with fitness tests and as a questionnaire.
On the basis of the research, it can be concluded that for the majority, participating in the gym group improved or maintained physical performance. The improvement in physical performance was noticed as an improvement in strength and muscle condition, as well as general endurance. Participating in the gym group was also perceived to have an effect on social life and mood. It was nice to move around with the group and at the same time get social contacts.
