State contributions, railway border, eastern railway, EU support level and the responsibility for financing and organizing wars.

After the elections, Imatra's city government recorded the goals that are important to take into account when preparing the next government program from the point of view of the city and the entire province.

We talked earlier that South Karelia needs a rescue plan. In our view, these goals are important for all of us in the entire province, Mayor of Imatra Kai Roslakka says.

Imatra's goals for the board program:

  1. From 2020, the Ministry of State Finance has entered a billion euros more in state contributions for basic services to the municipal economy program. MPs should make sure that the money also genuinely exists in future budgets to be allocated to municipalities. This money is needed precisely to secure basic services.
  2. Internationalization of the Imatra railway border crossing, which significantly improves the logistics and competitiveness of the entire Finnish industrial facilities, because freight times and costs are significantly reduced in the direction of the east. This need for change stems from the needs of the export industry. The change requires strong initiative at the ministerial level so that the negotiations with Russia can progress.
  3. Also at Eastern Railway is important from the point of view of the vitality of Southeast Finland as a whole.
  4. Raising the investment level of the Imatra region in the EU's future program period to the region of the highest support level. The Imatra region is an area of restructuring of large industry, where the diversification of the business structure is a key issue to guarantee the vitality of the region. In order to raise the support level, the Southern Karelia Federation has already submitted an application to the ministry.
  5. The model based on municipal funding of social and health services is not sustainable. The reorganization must be done as quickly as possible so that the responsibility for financing and organizing social and health services rests with the same entity.
