We are still looking for the owners of a few booths. Land rent arrears are also being paid.

The city of Imatra has been cleaning Saimaa's beaches during the summer.

- With the help of the salary support staff and the ferry, we have collected mixed waste, iron and ferry scraps from the beaches, as well as piles of leftovers from previously dismantled booths, says foreman Hanna Nevalainen.

During the summer, 31 boathouses in poor condition have also left the landscape. The dismantled booths were located in Lempuka, Hosseinlahti, Malonsalmi, Leppälahti and Patalahti.

- The city came against the former owners of the booths in the spirit of a campaign and offered to demolish them. Usually, the owners are responsible for dismantling the booths.

Some of the booths have had saunas and concrete structures, the demolition of which has required additional work.

The beach cleaning contract was started in the city already in 2010. There are less than ten boat shelters that have been dismantled. Not all owners of these booths have been contacted, some have rent arrears on the land.

- Lease agreements will not be renewed if the owners have rent arrears or the booths are in poor condition.

This has already been announced in the spring with a letter and signs on the walls of the booths. Now the city is still sending letters and reminding about the obligations to settle rent arrears with collection.

- The boathouses should be renovated. If this has not been done by the beginning of May 2018, based on the terrain inspection, the owners will still be sent reminders for repairs and a possible penalty fine procedure will begin.

The old boathouse tradition is not disappearing from Imatra. There are still about 200 standing booths in better condition.

- The purpose is to have clean boat shelters that fit the landscape. At best, they are a great part of Saimaa's history.

Six smaller rowing booths have also been dismantled during the summer.

Changes are also expected for all those who have rented land for a boathouse.

-The boat booths will be renumbered when the lease is renewed.
