The renovation of Imatra's Karhumäki sports field will be completed in the early days of August. This summer, the grass field, running tracks and other performance venues were renewed and an irrigation system was installed on the lawn.

According to Mitra's developer Henry Tapiola, all that remains to be done is the red spray coating of the running track and the painting of the field.

- The color of the field will be red, lighter colors require more maintenance and are more expensive to maintain.

- The summer construction works have gone quite well on schedule, although there have been some minor delays along the way. Additional works not included in the contract have also been carried out in the area to obtain a better end result and to facilitate maintenance. For example, the back field was enlarged to the dimensions of the junior field and an irrigation system was built on the field, previously irrigation was done with snow cannons and hoses.

- In addition, a lot of small practical things have been done to make things easier, for example marking pockets for the football field, which makes it easier to divide and paint the field, says Henry Tapiola.

Despite the challenges, the field will be completed on schedule. The field will be handed over to the city on Friday, August 3.8.

  • The renovation of the Karhumäki sports field will continue next winter, when a wooden grandstand and dressing booths will be built on the edge of the field.
  • The city of Imatra received a grant of 150 euros for the renovation of the field from the Regional Administrative Agency of Southern Finland
  • In total, the three-year Karhumäki field renovation project will cost approximately 1,3 million euros
