16.9.2022 13:00
The goal of the basic fee is to improve the cost-effectiveness of municipalities' environmental health and ensure high-quality supervision. Fees will be charged for other supervision services in the same way as before.

From now on, a basic annual supervision fee of 150 euros will be collected from establishments according to both the Health Protection Act and the Food Act. The payments are based on the amendment to the Health Protection Act and the new Food Act that entered into force in the spring of 2021. In the monitoring area of the environmental action of the Imatra region (Imatra, Parikkala, Rautjärvi and Ruokolahti) in 2022 invoices for the basic fees will now be sent for the first time in the fall.

The annual basic supervision fee is charged to all operators who must report their activities to environmental health care. Those subject to notification include, for example, accommodation operations, sports facilities, daycare centers and educational institutions, as well as food manufacturing, serving and retail sales.

If the same operator has several notifiable activities, e.g. in the food industry, at the same location, the basic supervision fee is paid only once. Instead, the fee for activities at different locations is charged per location.

In some cases, the same operator has activities in accordance with both the Health Protection Act and the Food Act in one place of business. In this case, separate payments are made based on both laws.

Among the establishments in the food industry, village shops, non-profit activities and primary production are exempted from the basic payment.

The Annex to the Health Protection Act mentions the locations or functions, the introduction of which or the start of operation is required to be notified. The appendix also describes activities and objects that are not covered by the basic fee.
