Blog: There is strength in cooperation

In the summer of 2021, Imatra, the cradle of Finnish tourism, was confirmed as the location of the national wilderness and nature culture museum. With the selection, reflection began on how Imatra and the wider South Karelia and Saimaa region can benefit from the future museum and vice versa.

The blog written by Mona Taipalee, project manager of the Eräpöhinää project, reflects on the importance of the network for the attraction of the future nature and wilderness culture museum.

During the past year, the Eräpöhinää project managed by the city of Imatra has strengthened the operating conditions of the future museum in the area in many ways.

Among other things, Eräpöhinää has brought together producers of nature and tourism services, sports, culture and well-being services as well as event, restaurant and learning services in network workshops, where mutual knowledge and cooperation have been strengthened and joint operating models with the future museum have been sketched.

The five-part workshop series is led by network work researcher, developer and trainer Timo Järvensivu.

Conceptualization of the Wilderness and Nature Culture Museum is just at the beginning, but we already know that the goal is high. The museum will be attractive both locally, nationally and internationally. The attractiveness is enhanced by the fact that the local nature, tourism and other products and services linked to the museum's themes are in order.

The goal is common to all: strengthening the attraction, grip and charm of Imatra, South Karelia and the broader Saimaa region, and increasing national and international visibility.
