All Pets must be registered. The obligation also applies to summer chickens and sheep, reminds rural representative Eveliina Simpanen.

Anni Revon eight sheep bleat in the courtyard in Imatra's Hallikkala.

In addition, the house includes ducks, chickens, bunnies and dogs.

- These are a joy, especially for our 4-year-old son. At the same time, they make it easy to learn about animals working with, Repo says.

Pets are a hobby for him. Repo is not alone in his hobby.

- Currently, Imatra has more than 60 registered animal keepers. In reality, there are probably significantly more animal keepers in the city, says the rural representative of South Karelia's rural activities Eveliina Simpanen.

It is difficult to say the exact number of animal keepers. By law, all animal keepers should register, but some do not, Simpanen saddens.

Registration is possible online

Registration is important. If animal diseases occur in the area, you need to know where and how many animals there are. In addition, registration helps the authorities monitor animal welfare.

All pets must be registered in every situation, even if the animals are only kept during the summer.

- Many also keep summer chickens or sheep in Imatra, for example. They also have to be registered, says Simpanen.

The notification of summer animals can be activated for the summer and stopped when winter comes.

Registration is free and can be done electronically On the website of the Food Agency.

First you have to make a notification about the place where the animal is kept, after that you can register as an animal keeper.

- It wasn't difficult and it didn't take long, says Repo.

He has registered his latest duck.

Taking the rooster is worth it think twice

Sheep keepers must also report the animals to the sheep register. Horse keepers must also register.

- Every single horse keeper must register as a horse keeper and the holding place must also be registered. In the case of horses, the registration is done by the entity that is responsible for the daily care of the animal, i.e. for example a stable where a stable place is rented for the horse, says Simpanen.

For chickens, own accounting is sufficient.

- You should also remember that it is not recommended to keep roosters in built-up areas, Simpanen guides.

Repo agrees: roosters should not be taken, especially in urban areas.

- The chickens don't necessarily miss the rooster. On the other hand, the next-door neighbor may be put to the test with the roosters.
