The city offers free bus rides to the residents of Sienimäki, Itä-Siitola and Sotkulammi. Vuoksen Lautturi will make a decision in May to start a scheduled landing traffic experiment.

The Finnish Railways Agency has announced that it will start the renovation work on the old railway bridge in Mansikkala next Monday (May 23.5). The estimated completion date of the bridge renovation is November 2022.

Both the Väylävirasto and the city of Imatra are responsible for the costs of the work carried out in connection with the Luumäki–Imatra railway project. The Railway Agency's share of the costs is approximately 1,9 million euros, and the city of Imatra's share is approximately 600 euros. MPV-Infrarakenne Oy has been selected as the contractor.

- The old bridge will be closed to all traffic. During the work, the structures are dismantled so that safe traffic on the bridge is not possible, the project manager responsible for the project Joonas Hämäläinen Tells about the Railway Agency.

The work will begin by dismantling the bridge deck structures around the steel bridge frame. The steel structure will be sandblasted and five new layers of paint will be painted on its surface, after which the new bridge decks will be constructed. A new, asphalted lower deck will be built on the bridge. After the renovation, the bridge will be owned by the city of Imatra, and will serve vehicular traffic, pedestrians and cyclists after completion.

The detour is shown on the map attached to the announcement.

Free bus ride for residents of the three regions

The city offers free bus rides to Sienimäki, Sotkulamme and Itä-Siitola during the bridge renovation.

─ Residents of these areas are entitled to this arrangement and they will be offered a separate card that entitles them to use public transport free of charge. The distribution of this card will be announced in more detail in the coming days, city engineer Päivi Ala-Vannesluoma says.

For example bus route 3 from Sienimäki It runs to and from Mansikkala and Imatrankoski every half hour during school hours and every hour in summer.

Dock traffic under consideration

Alternative means of transportation across Vuoksi are also planned.

- Vuoksen Lautturi is considering ferry service across Vuoksen during the summer, at least from Sienimäki beach to Culture Center Virta. Decisions about this will be made during May, Varpasaari fishing park entrepreneur Toni Kainulainen says.
