Piers intended for boating will give an additional boost to the development of tourism in Vuoksi and will improve the recreational use of the river.

Next week, two piers will be installed along the river. The platforms will come between Mansikkala town hall and Kulttuuritalo Virra, and in Imatrankoski at the intersection of Tainionkoskentie and Heikinkatu.

The docks are intended for boating. They can be used by both local residents and entrepreneurs.

-The purpose is to develop Vuoksi's tourism and diversify its recreational use opportunities. Piers can be used, for example, by cruise companies, event organizers and fishermen. Maybe in the future, after the rapids show, you can take a water taxi and visit the new wilderness and nature culture museum, which has been established in the building of the current town hall, project manager Minna Kähtävä-Marttinen says.

Environmentally friendly materials are used

The piers are mainly made of environmentally friendly materials. The cover structure is made of non-toxic larch. Impregnated wood has been used as little as possible.

- We have discussed the materials with experts from the environmental department. The piers have been made as Vuoksi-friendly as possible, says Kähtävä-Marttinen.

Externally, the new piers resemble the swimming pier on the Siitola beach.

Installation starts on Monday

The platforms will be transported to Imatra on Sunday 24.10 October. The installation will start on Monday. The piers are lowered into the water at the snow dump in Varpasaari and towed into place in Mansikkala and Imatrankoski.

The installation time is good, because the level of Vuoksi is currently lower than normal due to the dam repair work done by Fortum.

-Especially in Imatrankoski, the place of the pier is quite low. Now we have a good opportunity to test that the piers work even during low water. There will continue to be fluctuations in the water level, so it's good to make sure that the piers work in all situations.

The docks are available to boaters as soon as the installation work is completed. When the ice arrives, we will see if the piers need to be raised partially or completely on dry land for the winter.

Next year, electricity will be brought to the platforms and a passageway will be built to the footpaths next to Vuoksi.

The platforms are financed by the Visit Vuoksi project

He has acquired the piers CBC Visit Vuoksi project. Their cost is around 50 euros.

The CBC Visit Vuoksi project has received funding from the Southeast Finland – Russia CBC program, and its cost estimate is €834, of which the program's support is €355. The main implementer of the project in Finland is the city of Imatra, and in Russia, the Leningrad region's tourism information center, the Leningrad region's nature conservation and forestry department, and the Losevo tourism center. In the project, each actor is responsible for his own set of content. The project will last 667 years until autumn 484.
