Jarkko Liutu designed and produced an art complex in the yard of his former school.

Sculptor from Imatra Jarkko Liutu initially did three different works, from which the student council and the art work group chose the one they thought was the best. Now, after a one and a half year process, the work called Horisontti will be erected in the yard of Vuoksenniska School Center in a few days.

The parts of the artwork are the child sitting on the branch of the Kelo, a large flock of birds and a lone crow, which together create a multidimensional atmosphere.

- Horisont's three different works together form a scenic whole. The work is associated with multi-level symbolism, which describes both nature and the school world. After all, nature and natural sciences are particularly characteristic of this school as well, Liutu opens up the meanings of his work.

The project has gone smoothly with good cooperation.

- This has been amazing to do. We've had a good group from the beginning, and we've avoided unpleasant surprises. Mitra and head of the art group Reetta Ahonen have taken care of everything very well. A highly professional team is responsible for the erection work.

The artist has been interested in design and art since childhood.

- Legos and modeling waxes were the first thing. Since I was young, I've carved anything at any time - design and carving have run in our family, Liutu says.

The positive school environment gave me the last inspiration for my career choice.

- My art teacher here in Vuoksenniska was really supportive of me. Now I have my own workshop in Savonlinna and I am in my dream profession, Liutu describes his career.

The artist who lived in Imatra for 30 years liked the project in Vuoksenniska:

- Having attended the same school, this has been really fun and meaningful for me. I am satisfied with the end result. At this point, it feels pretty good, Liutu sums up his thoughts.
