The virtual rapids tour created in the surroundings of the Imatra rapids is now open to users. Works in a rapid environment.

By scanning the info sign with your mobile phone's camera, for example in Inkeri square or on the rapids bridge, you can enjoy the history of the rapids with the guidance of the sympathetic animation character Taimi, i.e. the little trout of Vuoksi.

Project manager Minna Kähtävä-Marttinen says that the Virtual rapids tour is a new way to offer a rapids experience.

- This has been tested for use, but now we need tourists' experiences. In the virtual rapids tour, new technologies are tried out in bringing out the story of the rapids. The thing that people think about the most is how this works together as a whole when there is animation and AR, i.e. augmented reality, Kähtävä-Marttinen reflects.

The product has been developed with a customer council and an open survey, based on which the virtual guide focuses on the rich history of the rapids of Imatra.

- I myself am moved by Koske's impressive history. There is a lot to show here and in this experiment we are testing how the means of modern technology can be used to bring out the contents.

The virtual rapids tour is developed based on feedback.

- Now the plan is to create a basic model, to which content will be added as needed. This summer is the time for further testing and comments. The application has a feedback point where you can leave your own assessment of its functionality, says Kähtävä-Marttinen.

A virtual rapid tour is part of it Virtual rapids project. The cost estimate of the project is €98, for which the South Karelia Provincial Federation has granted €500 in Regional Innovations and Experiments funding. The project ends on 78 August 800.

The Teatime Research company has been responsible for the technical implementation of the project

The guide can be found at www.virtuaalikoski.fi. The contents of the program can only be seen in their entirety in the area of the rapids of Imatra.
