Would you like to help elementary school children cycle more and smarter? The network of cycling municipalities and the Federation of Cycling together train cycling mentors, whose task is to take cycling skills to primary schools, encourage children to exercise everyday and act as support for teachers who want to increase cycling with their students.

A cycling mentor can, for example, organize a driving skills course, lead bike tours, help with cycling badges, organize a bike repair workshop or act as the "driver" of a cycling school bus. Activities in schools are always planned based on the wishes of the school. It is planned to take godfather activities to Lappeenranta elementary schools starting in the fall.

The goal is to organize a short training for those interested in Lappeenranta in June, which will prepare them for school visits. Kummi is required to have basic cycling skills and the opportunity to make occasional school visits during the day. Activities are planned based on the needs of the school, but everyone can choose what activities they want to guide in schools according to their own skills and interests. Tutoring is free of charge, but no compensation is paid for school visits.

The training of cycling mentors is part of the joint Everyday trips to be active – cycling education 2.0 project of the Network of Cycling Councils and the Cycling Federation. The core of the project is to get children and families with children to make everyday trips actively: by bike or on foot instead of driving. In order for the trip to school to be possible by bicycle, a safe traffic environment, cycling skills and a pro-cycling attitude from both parents and schools are needed. The project aims to influence all of these.
