Piristäjä service starts at Imatra
At first, we start helping the elderly. When a large number of Piristäjis have been brought in, the service can be offered to other residents of the Imatra region as well. The service started in January 2015.
SPR trains volunteer Cheerleaders who help the elderly or others in need of help at various events, clubs, libraries, museums, theaters, concerts, sporting events or even church. The purpose is to refresh the people of Imatra with the help of culture, exercise, being together and a volunteer Piristäjä.
The cheerleader activity differs from SPR's well-known friend service activity in that the cheerleader does not commit to just one person to be helped, but can cheer up several people at the same time. SPR coordinates the Piristäjä service.
Long-term SPR volunteer Anu Urpalainen has pledged to be a patron of Piristäjä-palvelu. With his own example and actions, he wants to promote the introduction of the service at Imatra.
How does the service work?
The person to be cheered up chooses which events or events he wants to go to. A person interested in the same event will be directed to him as a friend. The cheerleader can arrange transportation, help with movement if necessary and is a company at the event. Many elderly people do not go for a walk because moving alone can be scary. In this way, an escort would be a great help and support.
A cheerleader can also gather a group of people to carpool and bring them, for example, to coffee or the market. We hope the people of Imatra will seize the opportunity and become a Piristäjä. The activity does not impossibly tie up your own time, as you can sign up for events that you would otherwise be going to.
The cultural and sports services of the city of Imatra and the Imatra branch of the Red Cross are negotiating with event organizers, cultural producers and organizations to get Piristäjs cheap or free admission to cultural and sports events.
