Let's do it together – Imatra's new strategy is being completed
The Imatra of the future is a truly renewing Imatra of people and experiences. This is outlined in the new strategy draft, which is now progressing to decision-making.
The draft strategy is based on six key themes. The themes are as follows:
- A comfortable, safe and sustainable living environment
- Happy and healthy children, young people and families
- Sustainable and growing active and adventure tourism
- Business-friendly city
- Living Imatrankoski
- Smart and responsible services.
The values are summarized in two pairs of words: brave and innovative, and service-oriented and local.
The slogan of the draft strategy is "Let's do it together".
Implementation will begin after approval by the council.
The strategy has been worked on for over a year in seminars and workshops. The work was started with the previous council and completed under the new council.
—Strategy is the most important task of the city council and I am glad that a good common view has been found on the big strategic choices and goals. It is essential that we keep the tips in mind when making future decisions and develop Imatra towards the goals, and perhaps even a little beyond, the chairman of the city council Anna Helminen says.
There has been a lot of background material. The process has utilized, among other things, a resident experience survey conducted among municipal residents last spring, a values survey conducted among city personnel, and feedback from stakeholders, including entrepreneurs.
—The preparation has been carried out with a wide range of people. Municipal residents, city personnel and decision-makers have been listened to, and I am happy about that. The strategy guides the city's operations, but I hope that it will also inspire us all to be community-oriented. A large organization is not always needed, for example, to prepare events, but things can be done agilely and in cooperation with, for example, residents' associations, the Chairman of the City Board Tomi Kovanen says.
The city government discussed the strategy on Monday 2.2.and decided to return it for further preparation. The strategy will also require opinions from advocacy bodies, namely the Council for the Elderly and Disabled and the Youth Council.
The strategy will be approved by the city council in due course. Implementation will begin after the council's decision. It will also be communicated more widely after that.
