Imatran Seudun Sähkö organizes educational sessions for the youngest students, Stora Enso's Imatra factories cooperates especially with 8th graders.

Imatra Junior University Universoma got two new partners during the fall: Stora Enso's Imatra factories and Imatra Seudun Sähkö Oy are joining.

Imatran Seudun Sähkö Oy organizes learning sessions about electrical energy for preschoolers and 1st and 2nd grade students.

—Electricity is connected to people's lives from infancy to adulthood. That's why we considered it important to make the matter familiar to even the youngest school children. We are one of the sponsors in the project, with which children are given headlamps to protect them in the darkest moments of autumn and winter, and why not use them in games as well. At the same time, we can increase children's awareness of electricity and especially its safe and economical use with small informational bursts, says the CEO of Imatran Seudun Sähkö Oy Ari Saukkonen.

Information about production chains for upperclassmen

Stora Enso, on the other hand, mainly works with upperclassmen. The company participates in the Universoma workshops organized at the turn of November and December, which are held at the Lappeenranta campus of LUT University.

All Imatra's 8th graders participate in the workshops and their theme is future living spaces.

The theme fits well with Stora Enso's values, plant manager Mikko Nieminen says.

— Responsibility in both the production chain and consumption are important to us. We want to bring these values to the workshops and at the same time give tips on how everyone can make an impact with their own choices.

One of Universoma's most important goals is to increase children's and young people's interest in science and technology.

—It is also important for us, because we have to secure the availability of labor in the future, says Nieminen.

In addition to the workshop days, Stora Enso invites all 8th graders to visit the Imatra factories. The visits will take place in the spring of 2023.

The city of Imatra implements Universomaa together with LUT University and LAB University of Applied Sciences Junior University. In addition to the Junior University cooperation, the activity includes plenty of other partners, visits, study units and projects.
