

The goal of the Tobacco Act is to gradually end the use of tobacco products. The purpose of the law is to prevent the prerequisites for children and young people to start smoking and to limit smoking in their growing environment. The supervision is based on a prepared supervision plan, in which the inspection frequency based on the recommendations of the state administration is defined for each subject to be supervised. In addition to this, inspections are carried out based on customer contacts and in connection with the construction of new smoking areas. The municipality's supervisory authorities monitor compliance with the sale of tobacco and other tobacco products, restrictions and smoking bans, as well as compliance with legislation in their own supervisory areas. In connection with tobacco control, the retail sale of nicotine preparations in shops, gas stations and kiosks is also monitored.
