The city usually orders street area redemptions when street areas are undergoing basic improvements, including water supply work.
The site has a valid city plan, in which the space requirements for the city's municipal services and other infrastructure were clarified or assessed during the plan formation phase.
The city acts as the redeemer, i.e. in practice the payer of compensation.
The redemption is ordered from the National Land Survey of Finland, whose delivery engineer estimates the value of the area to be redeemed together with the city's trusted men.
Monetary compensation is determined according to the vegetation table values and separately for land acquired as street areas.
The redemption process will include an opening meeting and a closing meeting, and if necessary, other meetings and field inspections in between. Invitations to the redemption process meetings will be sent to the landowners affected by the redemption. You may and should attend the meetings.
The city is obliged to compensate landowners for the areas it loses as street areas in the plan. The compensation is monetary.
The city will not, in principle, plant any plants or similar that the landowner has lost, but will pay monetary compensation for the items that need to be replaced.
According to the Real Estate Formation Act, the city council must elect local people as trustees, who must be familiar with real estate matters and familiar with local conditions, be Finnish citizens, and whose capacity to act is not restricted (including other conditions).
