Procurement of biogas for gas-fired heating plants

Small amounts of natural gas are used as backup and peak fuel in district heat production (in 2019, 1,5% of all fuel use). Biogas certificates have been acquired for the end of 2020.

Effect of the procedure

By using biogas, this carbon dioxide emission can also be minimized, so district heating is completely CO2-free.

Situation in December 2021:

The resulting carbon dioxide emissions are compensated with biogas, so Imatra's district heating is completely CO2-free. 

Situation in May 2021:

The resulting carbon dioxide emissions are compensated with biogas, so Imatra's district heating is completely CO2-free. About 2020 MWh of biogas certificates have been reserved for the years 2021–3000, which corresponds to a 600 kg CO000 emission reduction.

Situation in May 2022:

Biogas certificates cover gas consumption for 2021.
Biogas certificates have also been acquired for 2022.
