The development of the former nursery area of Ukonniemi has also started on the ground.

The area was conceptualized already in 2019 with the help of an idea competition of city residents and students.

The first thing that will be implemented now is the playground, which will be ready for use in terms of play equipment and lighting during this year.

However, it is still not ready, because next year the goal is to continue landscaping the area with tree plantings and grass. So you have to wait for a while for the playground to become a green and wooded area, city gardener Erika Luhtanen says.

Although there is no time to do the landscaping yet this year, you can already play with the equipment later in the fall. The playground is not yet operational. The city will inform you when you can go to play in the area. Until then, it's a construction site.

Around the playground, a larger activity park has been conceptualized, which could include, for example, a skate park, traffic park and other activities. No funding decisions have been made regarding these.
