Bird feeding and rats

Birds should be fed from automatic feeders and stands. You don't throw food on the ground for the birds.

There are many types of automatic feeders, but the ones that are recommended are those where the birds cannot defecate among the seeds. The seeds easily fall to the ground from the automatic feeders, so it would be better to use tallow balls or sticks for feeding. However, remember to remove the plastic nets from the tallow balls.

- The feeding area should also be cleaned regularly, because uneaten food can accumulate as waste in the area, environmental engineer Merja Kaksonen recalls.

Food thrown on the ground attracts rats and other rodents to the feeding place. If there are observations of rats at the feeding place, the structures and cleanliness of the feeding area must be ensured and, if necessary, feeding must be interrupted during the next fasting period. Eradication of rats is the responsibility of the property owner.
