Felling trees in the city of Imatra's local plan areas is an activity that requires a permit. When granting a permit, the condition of the trees, their impact on the environment and the streetscape/landscape are assessed. The owner/holder of the plot may be obliged to plant a new tree in place of a tree of scenic value.
Issuing or denying tree felling permits is an official activity for which no fee is charged from local residents.
A privately owned plot and a plot leased from the city are in the same position when processing a tree felling permit. With a granted permit, the responsibility for tree felling lies with the property holder or owner.
Trees growing in the street area between the plot and the street are the responsibility of the plot owner/occupier.

In housing associations, a tree felling permit can be requested by the property manager or the chairman of the board.
