The task of the South Karelia social and crisis emergency service is to provide citizens with support, help, guidance and advice in various acute social emergency and crisis situations, such as
Discussion help in crisis situations
Heat production / Property heat / Imatran Lämpö Oy's emergency service
Power outage / Imatran Seudun Sähkö
Maintenance of Imatra traffic areas
If a power outage or a breakdown of network connections prevents the city's direct communication, you should listen to YLE Lappeenranta's broadcasts. At that time, Yle works as an information broker in cooperation with the authorities. For this purpose, you should always have a battery-powered radio available at home. You can also listen to local situational instructions via the car radio. In addition, information is shared about preparedness centers (see the next section), which can be set up in crises.
If the power outage or interruption of heat distribution is long-lasting, the city, together with other authorities, will set up an emergency center at the sports hall (Kotipolku 2).
Immediate help and advice is available there.
If necessary, the city can also use all three school centers as emergency centers.
Population shelters are located in the largest properties owned by the city of Imatra (e.g. educational institutions) as well as larger general shelters in Imatrankoski (center), Tuulikallio (rock shelter) and Vuoksenniska near the market. There are also population shelters in most apartment buildings built after the end of the 1950s for their residents.
When a crisis threatens, more detailed information about population shelters will be published on this website.
According to the law, protection must be able to be put into use within 72 hours of the authorities' order. For example, in apartment buildings, care must be taken to ensure that shelters can be emptied quickly if they have been used as storage.
