Last week, guests from Nizhyn, Ukraine visited the city. Earlier in the summer, Imatra representatives visited Narva-Joensuu, Estonia.

The mayor of Nizhyn visited Imatra Oleksandr Kodola, secretary of the city council Yuri Khomenko, city councilor Oleksandr Utenko and deputy mayor Serhii Smaha During the visit, future cooperation between the twin cities in the field of education and culture was discussed.

Nizhyn will continue to be assisted as much as possible.

— All in all, we are grateful to the Finns and the Imatra community for the help and support we received. Hopefully we will soon be able to celebrate our victory together and develop our relations during peacetime, Nizhyn city manager Oleksandr Kodola thanks.

During the week, the guests got to know Stora Enso's Imatra factories, Step education's Ruokolahti unit, Rajamuseo, Vuoksenniska school, LUT University and Lappeenranta fortress. The program also included a Saimaa cruise, a rapids show and a Ukrainian evening at the Imatra town hall. 

At the party, guests from Nizhyn met Ukrainians living in Imatra. Yuri Khomenko, secretary of the Nizhyn city council, said in his speech that he is happy to see that Ukrainians are doing well in Imatra. 
— But my dream is that Ukraine is still the kind of country they want to return to, he said.  

The representatives of the city of Imatra visited the twin city of Narva-Joesuu 

Mayor Matias Hilden and Head of International Affairs Tea Laitimo visited Imatra's sister city Narva-Joesuu on August 16-17.8.2024, XNUMX. 
During the visit, Hilden and Laitimo met the city management and got to know the cultural and tourism activities. The absence of Russian tourists can be seen in the daily life of both cities.

- It was interesting to see the situation at the border with the queues in Narva. We also got good ideas, for example, on how old properties could be utilized in various pop-up events, head of international affairs Tea Laitimo says. 
- Getting together can be promoted, for example, with the help of joint EU projects. There is always an opportunity to learn something new, he continues.
Narva-Joesuu has been Imatra's twin city since 2008.
