The Ukonrauha route plan has been completed.
The joint Ukonrauha route plan of the cities of Imatra and Lappeenranta has been completed under the leadership of Allegra Nordics Oy. The work involved extensive participation from area residents, tourism companies and other stakeholders through open workshops and online surveys.
– The survey and workshops carried out in the summer of 2025 provided valuable information about the current state of the routes and development needs. Based on these, clear and attractive route packages were created that serve both local users and tourists all year round, says the Marketing and Tourism Director of the City of Imatra Jaakko Jäppinen.
The route signs will be renewed according to the sign plan.
The new route plan is based on the existing trail and route network, but the routes have now been productized into entities suitable for different user groups. Detailed descriptions have been prepared for each route, which are published, among other things, on the luontoon.fi service, the Outdooractive application, and on the cities' and the region's tourism websites.
At the same time, a comprehensive signage plan has been completed, which will completely renew the signage in the area. The old signage will be removed and replaced with new, standard-compliant, clear and easily updated signage. The posts for the new signage have already been installed in the terrain, and some old, poor-quality signage has been removed at the same time. The remaining old signage will be removed and new signage installed during the spring and summer of 2026.
– Installation work has been carried out especially in the Rauha area. The installation of signposts is well underway. We will receive the first new signposts in the area during next winter, says the Forest Manager of the City of Lappeenranta. Janne-Perttu Rantonen.
– Although completely new route complexes have now been formed in the area, and some old loops or sections of path may have fallen out of the new guided route plan, all the paths and routes in the area are still available to everyone who is walking in the area through everyman's rights, Jäppinen reminds us.
The rehabilitation program measures are already underway in the Peace Region
The route plan also includes a comprehensive rehabilitation program, which identifies urgent and recommended rehabilitation sites. Rehabilitation measures have already begun, and the most urgent works will continue in spring 2026.
– We are also bringing new services to the Rauha area, such as a maintained campfire site at Talviranta and picnic tables along the hiking trail. The area's winter walking trails will receive a facelift in the Repokive and Papunen areas. Similar trail improvements are also planned for the Imatra side, which will be implemented over the course of next year, Rantonen says.
