The lighting on the Siitola overpass, or blue bridge, in Imatra will be repaired this week

The renovation of the additional lighting on the Siitola overpass, or blue bridge, will begin on Tuesday, October 28, 2025. The work will be completed within a week.

— Maintaining the bridge's lighting has been challenging, mainly in terms of permits. The bridge is in an area managed by the ELY Centre. We completed all the preparatory work related to maintenance in 2024 and applied for a permit from the ELY Centre for maintenance work that same summer. The permit was received a year after applying, says the maintenance engineer Kaisa Pohjola from the city of Imatra.

There will be minor impacts on traffic on Highway 6 as lanes of the expressway will have to be closed during the work.

During the project, the 72 fluorescent lamps located at the bottom of the bridge, which are at the end of their life cycle, will be replaced with ten spot-type LED lamps. 

— The blue accent lighting color will remain the same, but the electrical energy consumption will be reduced to one-tenth of the original five kilowatts, says the property manager. Janne Kyröläinen From Insplan Oy.
