The city reminds: contact building control before starting construction
Buildings under 30 square meters and sheds under 50 square meters do not require a building permit.
However, this does not mean that construction should be started without contacting building supervision.
-There may be other issues on the plot that need to be taken into account during construction, building supervision manager Jarkko Purujoki recalls.
At least the following points need to be clarified:
- Is there any building right remaining on the plot? The amount of building right is specified in the plan. If there is no building right remaining, construction is not permitted on the plot, or in some cases construction may require a deviation permit.
- Where are the plot boundaries? Especially on older plots, the plot boundaries are not necessarily known to the resident and the building may slip onto, for example, the city's or a neighbor's land.
- Where can a plot be built? The plan defines an area for construction within which buildings must be located. When considering the location of a building, the distance requirements for fire safety, among other things, must also be taken into account.
- What is the planning status of the construction site? The plan may set requirements for construction, including appearance and color.
- What is underground? Are there, for example, water pipes, district heating or a fiber optic network running through the plot?
It is worth clarifying matters in advance, as in the worst case scenario, a structure that violates regulations may have to be demolished.
"It's an extreme and expensive method, so it would be desirable that we be contacted before construction begins," Purujoki hopes.
