The City of Imatra has introduced a micro traffic permit as of January 1, 2026.

Release
7.1.2026 15:00
A permit is required for service providers who rent shared micromobility equipment, such as electric scooters and bicycles, in an area administered by the municipality.

The micro traffic permit must be applied for by 28.2 February. The permit is issued for a fixed period and a fee is charged for its processing. The fee for 2026 is €200 (VAT 0%).

The permit must be valid before vehicles are brought into the area.

The micro traffic permit is based on the revised Transport Services Act, which entered into force on 1 August 2025. The aim of the act is to improve traffic safety, accessibility and the usability of public areas.

— The micro-transport permit includes conditions that concern, among other things, driving speeds, parking and operating hours. These conditions must be complied with by the operator renting micro-transport vehicles, says the city's maintenance engineer Kaisa Pohjola

The key issues in Imatra's micro traffic permit conditions include the following:

  • The operating season is May 1.5–October 31.10. Any changes to the season are approved by the maintenance engineer.
  • The maximum permitted speed for vehicles is 20 km/h.
  • On weekend nights (Fri-Sun) from 10 pm to 22 am, the maximum speed limit is 05 km/h.
  • The application must have a night-time reaction test enabled between 22 p.m. and 05 a.m.
  • Driving and parking vehicles is prohibited in city-managed areas that are not intended for traffic, such as pedestrian streets and sports facilities.
