The recognition is a testament to the city's investments in the well-being of children and young people.

UNICEF Finland has awarded the City of Imatra the Child-Friendly Municipality award for its committed and active development work to promote children's rights.
The recognition was granted on March 20, 2026 and is valid for two years. Receiving the recognition requires the continuation of the Child Friendly Municipality work.

The City's Child Friendly Municipality Model Coordination Group is chaired by the Service Director. Arja Kujala.

— The recognition is great and we are proud that Imatra received this prestigious Child-Friendly Municipality recognition. Of course, the work continues to promote the rights of children and young people, as we want to ensure that Imatra is a safe and encouraging growing environment for every child and young person, he says.

The city joined the Child Friendly Municipality model in late 2021.

The city will announce the matter and future plans to celebrate the recognition in the near future.
