When a property is left empty and completely unused, i.e. there is no permanent residence or leisure time, waste transport can be suspended for a fixed period. Suspending the emptying of the waste container does not remove the basic fee or the authority fee for the property. The obligation to pay the basic and authority fees remains until the property is proven to be unsuitable for residential use.
If the desired interruption period is less than six months (6 months), it can be agreed directly with Etelä-Karjalan Jätehuolto Oy, when the emptying interval is 8 weeks or less.
For interruptions of more than 6 months, or when the emptying interval is 12 or 16 weeks, a deviation permit must be applied for from the waste management authority. The longest interruption of waste transport that can be granted is generally two years.
