News from Imatra's Universoma activities: 8th graders visited LUT University in the fall
Imatra's Universoma activities are active again this academic year. TThe activity includes an annual visit by 8th graders to LUT University. Imatra's 8th graders visited the LUT workshop in November.
– During the day, the students participated in workshops organized by companies, got to know the campus through Junior University, and had lunch at the LUT Buffet. In addition, the students were given presentations of LUT and LAB universities, says the Education and Youth Manager of the City of Imatra Minna Rovio.
Both students and teachers gave positive feedback about the day. The comments from the Vuoksenniska students particularly emphasized that they gained new information about urban planning and that their own opinions were listened to. The people at the event and the positive atmosphere were also praised. The students hoped for more tasks and teamwork in the future.
– Universoma activities will continue as planned in the spring. Technology and robotics clubs are active, and cooperation with Robocamp has been intensified. The Robocamp collaboration will include, among other things, a snack day and a program related to artificial intelligence, Rovio adds.
Universoma – Imatra Junior University
Universomaa is implemented in collaboration with LUT University and LAB University of Applied Sciences' Junior University. In addition to the Junior University collaboration, the activities include a wide range of other visits, study modules and projects. The visit to the LUT University campus is one part of Universomaa's activities.
– I see this technology-focused Universoma path as a very important stimulus for the future. It gives young people the opportunity to try out a wide range of things during their basic education. This also has a great significance for a broader way of learning new things, Rovio says.
Universoma's goal is to bring natural sciences and the academic world closer to everyday life in comprehensive schools and upper secondary schools. It works in collaboration with LUT University, LAB University of Applied Sciences, Stora Enso Imatra Mills, Imatra Water, Imatra Lämpö Oy, Imatra Seudun Sähkö Oy, Etelä-Karjalan Jätehuolto Oy, Mitra Imatra Rakennuttaja, Ovako and Robocamp.
