Letters from city authorities will soon be sent electronically via the Suomi.fi messaging service
The City of Imatra will introduce electronic letters at the beginning of the year. In the future, a large part of the letter mail sent by the city to private individuals will appear in the municipal resident's Suomi.fi mailbox.
—Electronic mail will be used to send, among other things, hearing notices, extracts from minutes and decisions of officials. Until now, these documents have been sent by traditional paper mail, the team manager of the case management team Antti Valpas says.
The change does not apply to all letters sent by the city. For example, invoices sent by the city will still arrive in the mail as usual.
Initially, only mail intended for private individuals will be sent to the Suomi.fi mailbox. Companies and associations will be added as recipients of messages at a later stage.
What should a city dweller do?
There is no need to take any action to activate Suomi.fi messages if the person already has the Suomi.fi service. If the service has not been activated, you can register for it at suomi.fi/viestit or in the Suomi.fi mobile application.
If electronic messages are not enabled, mail will still arrive in paper form.
The introduction of electronic services is part of a legislative change aimed at transitioning to digital government communications. The legislative change is coming into force in the spring. After that, government mail will be delivered primarily to Suomi.fi messages. Mail may also arrive in other electronic channels if the person has adopted them.
The system is currently being tested. Emails will start arriving to residents in February.
