City residents can now influence the placement of Välkky safety warning lights.

Last year, the city of Imatra received a donation of ten Välkky emergency warning devices from Lähi-Tapiola Southeast Finland. The donation was part of the insurance company's nationwide traffic safety program campaign.

A Välkky is a flashing light pole that warns drivers of a pedestrian or cyclist approaching a pedestrian crossing. The Välkky are already familiar to the people of Imatra, they are placed near schools, for example. With the help of the donation, the city will be able to improve the safety of pedestrian crossings by installing more Välkky pedestrian crossing warning lights in the urban environment.

— Warm thanks for the donation! It is great that the beacons were donated to us. We received five pairs of devices for Imatra, which will be installed next summer. Now we want to hear residents' suggestions for where to place the beacons. The views of the residents will help identify the most important sites and improve traffic safety, says the city's maintenance engineer Kaisa Pohjola.

The locations of the flashes are determined through a resident survey.

The survey is open on the city's website from February 17.2 to March 9.3.2025, XNUMX. The results of the placements will be published after the survey is completed in March.

Beanies with the Imatra logo will be raffled among those who responded to the survey. We will send a reflector to everyone who left their contact information as a thank you for participating.

Välkky is a domestic innovation and the device is manufactured in Finland.

Flashing lights are installed on busy streets and intersections where pedestrian safety is to be improved.

LocalTapiola's regional companies have committed to donating a total of over 100 Välkkys across Finland. Currently, there are ten Välkky locations in Imatra.
