Radon is an odorless and invisible radioactive gas found in the soil. It is released from the soil into the indoor air through cracks in the basement of a building due to negative pressure. Prolonged exposure to high radon levels significantly increases the risk of lung cancer. 

– The Radiation and Nuclear Safety Authority (STUK) recommends that indoor radon concentrations be measured in all single-family homes and in first-floor apartments in apartment buildings, says an environmental engineer from the Imatra Regional Environmental Service. Sirpa Heinänen. 

The measurements are carried out as jar measurements lasting at least two months during the measurement period from 1.9 September to 31.5 May.
