The visit was a show of support for a country at war.

Representatives of the city of Imatra visited Nizhyn in Ukraine. The visit was made on 4–7.5 May.

The mayor took part in the visit Matias Hilden, 2nd vice president of the city board Timo Härkönen, CEO of Mitra Imatra Rakennuttaja Lassi Nurmi and participation coordinator Heikki Wool. In addition, there were other Finnish humanitarian aid providers.

The trip was a show of support for a city living in the middle of war. The program included meetings with representatives of the city of Nizhyn, as well as visits to businesses and cultural sites in the region. At the beginning of the visit, the humanitarian aid collected from Imatra and two old KIPA vans were handed over.

— We also got to know what kind of security solutions have been implemented in the construction of urban infrastructure in a country at war, as well as how, for example, the activities of the army are supported in a decentralized manner at the local level, Hilden says.

Everyday life in the city is quite normal, although the war can be seen in the background in the form of air raids, among other things.

— It was particularly touching to see with my own eyes the memorials of the fallen heroes. Nizhyn has about 60 inhabitants and about 000 soldiers have fallen from the city, says Hilden.

— The people of Nizhyn were very grateful for the help they received from Imatra. On their behalf, I would like to convey a big thank you to all the citizens, companies and organizations that have helped them and Ukraine in various ways, states Mayor Hilden.

Representatives of the city of Nizhyn have visited Imatra twice.
