Imatra is bustling with events and experiences even in winter
sports and experiences.
The highlights of the winter include the European Youth Biathlon Championships, which will be held in Ukonniemi from 19 to 25.1 January. The competitions are the 10th anniversary competitions of the Ukonniemi Stadium. The four-day competition program includes normal distances, speed races, mass starts, and mixed and mixed pair relays. 21 countries have already registered for the competitions, and a total of over 200 young top athletes will line up at the starting line.
– The competition is a great demonstration of how the city's investments in Ukonniemi's sports infrastructure and the long-term work of Imatra Athletes bring vitality to the area and elevate Imatra to an internationally renowned biathlon destination, says the city's tourism and marketing director. The January sports festival continues when the Karate Finland Cup 2026 brings together the country's best competitive karatekas to the Imatra Sports Hall on January 24.1. Fast-paced matches and top-notch expertise are expected.
Fishing enthusiasts will be spoiled with the South Karelia Championship Fishing Festival, which will be held in Ukonniemi on Saturday, January 31.1st from 9 am to 15 pm. The competition, which is open to everyone, has divisions for men, women and children under 18 years of age.
At the end of February, music, sauna and winter atmosphere will come together when Imatra Soundome and Saunafestarit take over the Vuoksi Fishing Park on February 28.2th.
In March, the nature of Ukonniemi invites you to winter running and cycling at the Saimaa Winter Trail event on March 6–7.3.

Theatre Imatra's spring season starts in February
Theatre Imatra opens its spring season by Dan Brown The Da Vinci Code, a global hit based on the novel. The performance will have its Nordic premiere on the large stage of Teatteri Imatra on February 7, 2026.
– A densely atmospheric, titillating and visually dazzling mystery thriller is promised, which is guaranteed to keep you in its grip until the surprising end, theatre director Timo Rissanen reveal.
At the beginning of March, the Imatra Theatre will host its first baby theatre performance. The Klip Klap baby theatre performance will premiere on the Pikku Hiisi stage on March 4, 2026. The approximately 25-minute performance will include music, songs, rhymes, movement, and visuals.
