The station has been closed for renovations from July 2024.

The station's renovated waiting, lobby, toilet and corridor areas will open to tourists on the first day of October at 4.45:XNUMX a.m.
The official opening is planned for late October.

The central station's building services, which date back to the 1970s, have been completely renovated.

— The work is on schedule and will be completed by the end of September. Surface finishing work and building services adjustments will be carried out at the station this month, says the developer. Pasi Huoponen From Mitra.

The large text sign at the central station had to be destroyed due to its poor condition.

— A new illuminated sign will be ordered and it is planned to be installed under the hood by the front doors of the station, Huoponen says.

The station will be open daily from 4.45:21.00 a.m. to XNUMX:XNUMX p.m. At other times, access to the station platform will be from the outside.

In the waiting hall on the first floor of the station, tourists are served by a tourist information screen with a digital display and brochures for distribution.
Lease negotiations are underway for the station's premises.

Traffic arrangements after the station opens

New asphalt and lampposts in the yard of the central station.

The taxi rank will move from the edge of Tainionkoskentie back to the central station yard on October 1.10st.

The stops for Imatra local transport (lines 21–25) are near the central station, along Tainionkoskentie, and the stops for regional transport lines 100 and 101 and Lappeenranta commuter lines 111 and 112 are in the courtyard of the central station.

New bicycle racks and shelters are coming to the station this fall. They will be installed at the end of October.

— The station is getting two bike shelters with places for locking bikes to the frame. In addition, there will be frame-locking arch racks under the roof flap, promises the city engineer Väinö Juvakka.

Accessibility has been taken into account in the interior design and thematic elements have been drawn from nature.

Indoor and outdoor spaces emphasize closeness to nature, peace, and earthy elements.

— Such elements include organic and nature-inspired shapes, authentic materials such as the wood paneling used in the waiting areas. The theme of the space is also significantly supported by the previously completed wall mural in the waiting area, which is themed around the nature of Imatra and Lake Saimaa. The work is an impressive depiction of nature that unfolds beneath the surface, says the interior architect who designed the station’s interior. Kati Anttonen Design office SIS KATI.

The interior design also includes elements of Imatra's emblematic animals, the eastern hippopotamus and the grayling, which will be part of the window tapes. Imatra's emblematic plant, the ulpukka, will possibly be introduced into the look of the first-floor waiting area.

The aim of the interior design is also to support operations, the travel chain, and strengthen barrier-free and safe movement between spaces.

— Accessibility plays an absolutely important role in this location! For example, the necessary accessibility requirements have been taken into account in the seating in the waiting areas, for example in terms of dimensions, colors, functional features and details, Anttonen continues.

It is a temporary matter…

This is a temporary solution. New traffic arrangements, bus stops, pedestrian crossings, taxi lanes, are currently being planned. :-)

I really wonder how...

I really wonder how a local bus stop can be located at an intersection. When the bus is at a stop, turning onto the bus takes place directly from the left lane. It makes no sense, and it's not very safe either.
