Public ski slopes open when there is enough snow.

The Ukonniemi first snow track will become free of charge on Monday, January 26.1th, after the European Youth Biathlon Championships.

The public trails have not yet been skied due to the poor snow conditions at the beginning of winter. Approximately 20–30 cm of snow is needed to make the bases of the trails. In addition, approximately 10–20 cm of snow is needed on top of the base so that the snow groomers can make the trails. This will ensure safe skiing and prevent damage to the snow groomers.

In addition, track construction resources are tied up this week with the European Youth Biathlon Championships.

– Now that the prestigious competitions have come to an end with honor and we are waiting for the natural snow trails to open, we want to offer all residents of the municipality the opportunity to go skiing. It would be great to see Imatra residents on the trails in large numbers enjoying winter and skiing, Sports Manager Henna Kaijanen says.

Approximately 2,500 tickets have been sold for the Ensilumenladu ski slope so far. In addition, there have been camps and competitions on the slopes steadily throughout the season.

– Skiers have found the slopes well despite the challenging conditions at the end of the year, marketing planner Iitaliina Purhonen says.
