The pile of apple waste in the picture has ended up in the wrong place, i.e. nature. The right place for apple waste is the Hyödyksi station.

Garden waste must be taken to the recycling station.

Garden waste may not be taken to city lands, such as parks or other areas.

During the summer and autumn, many people's yards accumulate various types of garden waste. It is therefore good to remember the correct disposal of garden waste.

– For example, apples must be taken to the Harakka Recycling Station or put in your own biowaste. Twigs, branches and small amounts of raking waste can be taken free of charge to the Kuoriaisenkuja garden waste area, reminds the environmental engineer. Carita Kattainen From the environmental department of the Imatra region.

Raw apples, leftover apples and apples with mummification disease can be delivered to the recycling station. The station has a separate pallet or waste container for apples, where they must be placed as they are, not in plastic bags.

Small amounts of healthy apples can also be composted in your own composter. Do not put large amounts of apple waste in the composter, as this will fill the composter unnecessarily and the compost will become too moist. Too much moisture will disrupt the composting process.

The disadvantages of apple waste are manifold

If apple waste ends up in nature, it increases odor nuisance and eating opportunities for rats, collects wasps around it and attracts pests.

The disposal of apple waste is the responsibility of the property owner and the land owner.

Raking waste for compost

In the fall, yards also accumulate various types of raking waste, such as tree leaves. Leaves are part of garden waste, which can be composted in your own garden composter or taken to Hyödyksi stations that accept garden waste.
