The South Karelia Waste Board functions as a joint board of all municipalities in South Karelia. The city of Imatra acts as the host municipality of the waste board by decision of the municipalities. Official decisions on waste management are made at the meetings of the waste board, and in certain parts the waste board has delegated decision-making to office holders.
The South Karelia waste board consists of seven members, three of which are from Lappeenranta, two from Imatra, one from the Parikkala, Rautjärvi and Ruokolahti regions, and one from the Lemi, Luumäki, Savitaipale and Taipalsaari regions.
