Contact materials

Contact materials are materials and accessories that are directly or indirectly in contact with food. These include, for example, food packaging, eating utensils and utensils, food industry manufacturing equipment and disposable gloves.

They also include substances and supplies, for example printing inks, varnishes and adhesives, which are used in the production of contact materials.

Under normal or foreseeable conditions of use, ingredients from materials and accessories may not transfer into the food in such quantities that

• could endanger human health
• cause inappropriate changes to the composition of the food
• causes a deterioration of the sensory properties of the food.

Report the activity

Industry operators are responsible for the safety of materials and the fulfillment of other requirements. Operators must do ad from their place of business and the activities carried out there to environmental health care.

An operator that manufactures or imports contact materials must have a self-monitoring system or a quality management system.
