The city council decided to launch construction planning for a new sports center
The current sports hall will not be renovated, the city council decided at its meeting on Monday, April 28.4. Instead, planning for the construction of a new sports hall in Ukonniemi will be initiated. According to the VE1 model.
In addition, the city council decided to initiate a zoning change, the aim of which is to remove the conservation designation of the current sports hall and enable the use of the area for tourism and sports purposes.
The decision was made on Monday evening after a long and winding discussion.
During the discussion, two amendment proposals were made, the first of which proposed returning the sports hall decision to preparation and the second proposing launching a 5-year longer-term plan to renovate the current sports hall. Both proposals were rejected after a vote.
Decisions regarding the swimming pool will be made in the fall of 2025.

Summary of decisions from the city council meeting
Link's decision summary updated on April 28.4 at 22.30:XNUMX PM: Corrected voting result.
A council that lives to the last...
The council, which was living its last days, probably wanted
ensure that many families with children and pensioners move from Imatra to somewhere else where political snobbery is not a way of life, which the politicians and then the civil servants here have done in the sports hall issue! Harassment is not tolerated and is not wanted by the people of Imatra.
Who has the honor of turning off the last lights when leaving?
Sports hall and swimming pool…
The sports hall and swimming pool belong in their current location. What's the point of moving the sports hall to Ukonniemi? The city is already in debt and the population is decreasing.
If you want to liven up…
If you want to revitalize the city center and at the same time move all the sports facilities to Ukkonniemi, then couldn't you also move the city center there? We are always thinking about how to increase the attractiveness of the city. Revitalization does not require increasing attractiveness.
Hi Titta, Yes, of course…
Hi Tita,
Yes, there was an error in the meeting announcement, the numbers were wrong. Now the text has been corrected. Thank you for your attention!
Here we have considered…
Here we have been considering with the family whether to stay in Imatra or move to Lappeenranta. The school has already left Meltola, in a few years the daycare will start. Now the training place for the child who does athletics will move further away. Soon one of the children's indoor swimming pool hobbies will probably also be moved further away. Imatra is starting to be seen as such. It's a wonder the decisions are made, wherever the dead Ukonniemi is artificially resuscitated, when the decision-makers' money is tied up there. And Etuovi is full of homes for working-age people and children, when there's no point in living here anymore.
This city doesn't need taxpayers and families with children.
Hmm. Is that…
Hmm. Is there a mistake in that meeting summary? Did the majority support the creation of a corrective plan?
