An environmental award has been established in South Karelia
An environmental award has been established in South Karelia. Its goal is to promote the green transition in the province, highlight local environmental expertise and increase the publicity of local environmental actions. The size of the prize is significant, i.e. 10.000 euros will be awarded to the winning proposal.
The award was founded by OP Southeast Finland, Lappeenranta-Saimaa Rotary Club, LUT University, City of Lappeenranta, City of Imatra, South Karelia Chamber of Commerce, South Saimaa Newspaper and South Karelia Entrepreneurs. The award is also financed by the Raija and Ossi Tuuliainen Foundation. The idea for the award came from the Rotary Club.
- This province produces a lot of innovations for sustainable development, combating climate change and the green transition. They deserve to be noticed and known. With our tangible award, we want to highlight the best of the best, says the person who conceived the competition in the Rotary Club Mikko Heikkilä.
The awarding committee decides on awarding the award, which includes a representative from each organization that founded the award. Rules have been drawn up for the competition, based on which the competition proposals are evaluated.

- Individuals, companies, organizations, innovations, collaborative projects or used theses can participate in it, for example.
The object to be rewarded must be concrete and already implemented.
The search for award proposals starts on 7.5.2024 and ends 16.6.2024. Award proposals are submitted using the application form at https://etela-karjalankauppakamari.fi/ymparistopalkinto2024.
The recipient of the award will be announced on 29.8.2024 at the Greenreality carnival of the city of Lappeenranta.

The patron of the competition is an actor Jasper Pääkkönen, who is also a keen nature activist. He plays a significant role in, among other things, the restoration project of Hiitolanjoki in South Karelia.
